What exactly happens in an OSCE Shorts session?

You sit in a quiet room at Lavanika Academy with provided headphones and listen to Communication OSCE cases, with Dr. Lavanika explaining each one in the recording — how the case opens, where candidates lose marks, and what a strong, structured response sounds like. It is a listening session: you are not assessed, there is no roleplay, and there is nothing to prepare beforehand.

Who explains the cases?

Dr. Lavanika explains each case in the recording you listen to. These are teaching cases built to reflect the style and demands of the Communication OSCE.

How many cases can I book, and what does it cost?

The minimum booking is 3 cases at $360 AUD. Individual cases are $120 AUD each. The 6-case sitting is $599 AUD, which is a discount on the per-case rate.

Can I pause and listen to a case again?

Yes. Within your booked sitting you can pause, rewind and re-listen to any case as often as you like. The time limit applies — once your booked time is up, access stops automatically.

Can I record the session or take notes?

No recording of any kind is permitted — audio, video, photographs or screen capture. Listening is on provided headphones, which are compulsory, so nothing plays aloud in the room, and you will be asked to sign a short no-recording acknowledgement before the session starts. You are welcome to take handwritten notes for your own study.

I am flying to Melbourne shortly before my exam. Can I book then?

Yes. Sessions run by appointment and many candidates book one in the week or two before their examination, while they are in Melbourne. Email us with your dates and we will fit a session around them where we can.

Can I get a copy of the recordings to take away?

No. The session is listen-only and on site — there is no recording, transcript or copy to take away. If you would like to hear the cases again, you can book another sitting.

Is this a substitute for a Communication OSCE course?

No. It is a listening session, not training — there is no roleplay, no feedback on your own performance and no study material. Most candidates use it alongside a Communication OSCE course or mock exam, to hear a wider range of cases explained.

To keep the material fair for every candidate, a few conditions apply:

A facilitator remains present throughout
Phones stay away from the desk during the session; we provide somewhere to put them
Access stops automatically at the end of your booked time

You keep your own belongings at all times — we do not take custody of your phone.
